Psalm 69
This is a long chapter. The first twenty-nine verses deal with David’s persecution for not reason. These verses are also a picture of Christ, as he was perfect, yet condemned to die. Verses thirty though thirty-six David praises God for His goodness.
Before we take a look at the final verses, I want to examine verse twenty-nine. David says that he is poor and sorrowful. Well, we know that David was a king – a wealthy king. So, he does not mean poor in the sense of wealth. David is poor in spirit, just as Christ spoke in the New Testament. He was humble. He knew that he was a sinner (v 5), but he also knew that his salvation was in God not himself.
The later part of the chapter David praises God for all that He has done for him. Verse thirty says that he will praise him with a song and thanksgiving. Verse thirty-one states that the song is pleases God more than sacrificing an ox or bullock. David tells us here that God is concerned with the heart, not false actions. Anyone can appear to be a good person. But God wants a person where goodness begins in their heart.
