Psalm 65
David speaks of the awesomeness of God here in this chapter. First, David describes God’s amazing lovingkindness toward us as sinful people. Then, David declares the wonder of the creation that is all around him.
In the first five verses David speaks about God’s dealing with man. A key verse is verse three, which says, “Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, thou shalt purge them away.” David expresses truth about the human condition: man can never keep himself from sinning. No matter how hard David may have fought within himself against temptations, he found that he could always resist sinful temptations. However, the wonder of God is this: that He will purge our transgressions away. Both here on this earth God will work with us to make us more like Himself and then in heaven all sinfulness will be burnt away and man will be free to worship God in purity of heart.
The last part of the chapter speaks of God’s creation. God sets the mountains where He wants them, he causes the storms to rise and cease when He wants them too. There is no place in the earth that is not known to God. He is universal. And God not only created the earth but He is still here and sustaining the earth. God still blesses the earth with numerous good things. We would do well to remember that no matter how bad our world has become or how trashed we may think the environment is, that God still cares for His creation. He is not finished with it yet.
Moreover, we can learn about God’s incredible preciseness and power by looking at all the things that he does at one time. He deals with you and I while he also sustains the earth. And while doing this He does not get tired, He does not get frustrated, He never decided to quit. He is an unchanging God that we can rely on.
