Psalm 63
In Psalm 63, David states that he seeks after God more than anything on this earth. In verse one he says, “early will I seek thee”, in verse three he says, “thy lovingkindness is better than life”, verse eight he says, “My soul followeth hard after thee”, and finally in verse eleven he says, “the king shall rejoice in God.” David followed after God and sought God – followed Him hard verse eight says – because God was David’s number one priority. The same should be true of us in our walks with God.
There is another lesson here for us as teachers though. Verse one states: “early will I seek thee.” David really wanted to know and understand God. To do that he sough Him early and often. If we as teachers have as one of our main goals to be good teachers – what teacher worth their salt doesn’t have this as their main goal? – then would should seek out the resources that can make us better teachers. We will have to put in the extra effort after school and on the weekends.
Solomon tells his son in Proverbs that a person has to search for wisdom. That same is true here. Teachers do not become good teachers overnight or just because they want to be good teachers. Teachers become good teachers because they study, search for better ways to teach, and practice improving on a daily basis. We should work hard (verse 8) to become good teachers.
