| Comments: This lesson will probably take a few days to teach through. There are many applications to the account of Noah and the Flood. A good application is the salvation that Noah found in the ark and the salvation that mankind finds in Christ.
However, this lesson plan will deal with Genesis 6:5 "And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually". Students will examine how society might have arrived at such a state and what we, in the present, can do to avoid such a state. First, examine with the students the number of generations (10) between Adam and Noah. It was common for men to live hundreds of years during this time, but nevertheless it only took 10 generations to get to a point a complete rejection of God, save Noah and his family. Second, I like to show a video of the sincere efforts of other cultures to get close to "god". I use a video of the Indian culture which includes clips of men piercing their bodies with hooks and such in order show their sincerity to their "gods". Please be conscious of what age group you show these videos to. This video can be a bit graphic so I only show it to seniors. There are other less graphics videos that would be appropriate for lower grades. After the video I give the students the opportunity to express their thoughts about what they saw. I also point out that most of these cultures are sincerely trying to reach their "gods". I then ask them how a society gets from knowing the real God to doing something so inhuman in an attempt to please God? Finally, I talk to my students about how to find true knowledge and where real knowledge exists: God and His Word. I then show them how to examine God's Word, not in order to justify our own wants, but to find God's truth. I give students these three points to finding truth. 1) What makes the statement true, 2) What makes the statement false, 3) What other information is needed? Don't let these questions scare you. If God is real and his truth is true then the only result these questions will have is to reveal the true God. And remember this, any method meant to trick students into believing the Bible will result in their rejection of the whole system of Christianity. Don't be afraid of truth, even if it appears to be contrary to the Bible. If all truth is God's then a sincere search will reveal God's thoughts about any subject. |
